I love your newsletters! I always learn something. I've enjoyed all your books! Just thought I'd mention the recent release "Tartufo" by Kira Jane Buxton -- much fun! All lovers of Italy should enjoy it.
When we were in Sicily (almost 10 years ago!) we were in Erice and Trapani, in the northwest. Trapani has a scythe-shaped landform that is part of the harbor. We were told the myth was that when Demeter was told her daughter had been abducted, she was scything wheat. In her distress she threw down her scythe, which landed by the sea and formed the shape of Trapani's harbor. Sicily is filled with such stories, and we were delighted by how much the island had factored into ancient Greek, Roman, and Islamic civilizations. It's very much a crossroads of the Mediterranean!
